— This isn’t a mistake: Shake Shack is giving away free burgers to the first 100 guests at almost all locations around the world starting at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 16. This applies to both the South Lamar and Domain locations of the burger chain. The giveaway ends at noon.

— Olamaie is nominated as a best new restaurant in the South in this year’s Taste Talks. Winners will be announced in New York on September 26.

— Austin pitmasters shared their tips for really good at-home barbecue. Bill Kerlin of Kerlin BBQ recommends keeping a barbecue journal, Freedmen's Evan LeRoy is fond of salting, and Black Barrett from Black's urges patience.

— The lineup for this year’s Edible Austin’s chef auction were announced, where guests bid on one-on-one time with chefs. It includes the usual suspects: Tyson Cole, Sonya Cote, Ned Elliott, Shawn Cirkiel, and others. Grae Nonas, formerly of Olamaie, will preview his forthcoming project, the seafood-focused Aya, to a lucky bidder. The event takes place on October 6.

— First We Feast gathers barbecue spots which have had the most impact on the smoked meats world, which includes Snow's BBQ, Franklin Barbecue, Kreuz Market, Louie Mueller Barbecue, and others.

— Josh Hare talked to CNBC about Austin's startup culture, and how he opened Hops & Grain.

— USA Today's list of great Southern food festivals included Austin Food and Wine Festival, which didn’t happen this year due to rain concerns.
