Fresa’s Chicken al Carbon is opening its second location on Thursday, August 18 on South First, as announced on Twitter. Unlike the original drive-thru and pick-up-only location on North Lamar, the new South Austin spot will offer table service, along with a full bar.
The menu will expand with new items, including wood-grilled meats, bowls, and vegetables. Pastry chef Laura Sawicki will dish out more ice cream as well as create flour tortillas. For those looking for quick meals to take home, there will be a dedicated to-go window with accompanying reserved parking.
Expect indoor and outdoor seating and a full bar, which will serve margaritas. As an homage to predecessor Freddie’s Place (which Fresa’s took over last summer), there will be a playscape for children and live musical performances.
The Fresa’s team, Sawicki, chef Rene Ortiz, and Margaret Vera, also oversees award-winning restaurant Launderette in Holly and next-door neighbor bodega/gas station Mr. Mc’s, which slings New Orleans-inspired fare and soft serve ice cream.
Fresa's opened as a drive-thru on North Lamar under Larry McGuire in 2012. He left and Ortiz and Sawicki partnered with owners Vera and Tracy Overath in 2013.
