A man is being accused of breaking into Torchy’s Tacos’ trailer location on South 1st Street last month, as reported by KEYE.
On Thursday, July 14, Austin police officers arrived on the scene, responding to the burglary alarm, and heard someone moving around. They saw someone running from the restaurant grounds and jump a fence. The cops set up a perimeter, and within minutes, they found the suspect Joey Rangel Ramirez, found with cuts on his body. According to KEYE:
Ramirez told police his cuts were from fleeing the police, and not from the broken glass at the crime scene. Investigators say Ramirez is seen on surveillance video rummaging through drawers, and searching for items.
The police were able to name him because of his clothing, and when "he looked straight into the camera" in the video.
The Travis County district clerk’s office originally charged Ramirez on July 14, though the charge was dismissed due to an insufficient arrest affidavit. The burglary charge was refiled on Friday, July 29. Ramirez has denied involvement in the burglary.
