Kin & Comfort, the Thai and Southern fusion comfort stall within Hana World Market’s food court, is now closed, as the kitchen announced on Facebook yesterday. It was known for concocting spicy Asian comfort food mash-ups like taro hush puppies, panang mac and cheese, tom kha shrimp and grits, and spicy fried chicken.
Chefs and owners Ek Timrerk and Bonnie Wright opened Kin in April 2014. Before that, Timrerk cheffed the beloved shuttered SPIN Modern Thai with another Southeast Asian-focused chef, Thai Changthong, who now runs East Side King Thai Kun. He also helped his sister Titaya reopen her eponymous Thai restaurant. Wright previously worked for East Side King and Maison Premiere in New York. She left about a year after opening the stall.
Hana World Market, the Asian bazaar, in north Austin, is also home to Korean Hana Yoree and Japanese Papa Donkasu. The market's other food court occupant, iHeartPho, shuttered earlier.
Update, July 8: Timrerk told Austin 360 that he plans on reopening the restaurant in a location closer to central Austin, with expanded hours.
