A new barbecue restaurant is coming to East Cesar Chavez, Rustic East. Partner Matt Carter told Eater it aims to be "very laid back," focusing on smoked meats and cocktails.

Update, September 27: Rustic East is now called EastSide Tavern because of a cease and desist from Dallas restaurant The Rustic.

The restaurant has been searching for a pitmaster to work the already-built pit. Along with the barbecue-centric menu, there will be fries, salads, sandwiches, and tacos. Smoked chicken will be used for pulled chicken sandwiches.

Rustic also emphasizes quick-service cocktails with draft and barrel-aged options. Several classic drinks will be available as flights, so that customers can try something new without committing to a full drink.

Rustic will be found on 1510 East Cesar Chavez, across the street from Bufalina. The site used to be home to Top Dawgs Bar & Grill. Changes to the building included adding a rooftop deck, front patio, and giant windows. The goal is to open by early to mid-fall.

Involved with the restaurant are The Market co-owners John Korioth (also owner of La Mancha and Hangar Lounge), Matt Carter, and Clarissa Alcantara.
