While East Side Showroom is shutting down this month, the space won’t go to waste. It will become the home of a brand new spot run by the same team, as teased on the bar’s Facebook page, called Ah Sing Den.
Not much is known about the replacement bar, only that it will open before the end of summer. The name, as hinted by the Facebook post, comes from the real Victorian-era opium den in London frequented by writer Charles Dickens. It was run by a man named Ah Sing, who also known as John Johnston. He and his smoking haunt were featured in Dickens' novel The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Eater has reached out for more information about the East 6th bar, watch this space for updates.
East Side Showroom announced it was closing up after running for seven years last week. Its last day will be on Sunday, July 24, celebrated in good style with a party, of course.
