Dallas pizzeria Cane Rosso is opening its doors in Austin tonight, Tuesday, July 26. The menu’s city-specific pies include the Elena, the brisket-topped pizza with smoked meats from favorite truck Valentina’s Tex-Mex BBQ, as well as the brand new ginormous three-foot-long rectangular pies dubbed Pizza Metro.

The Austin location is the first of the seven locations (with a second Houston one coming later) to have two wood-burning ovens. The first fires up at Neapolitan pie temperature, and the second at a lower one for other dishes. The cocktail list, concocted by drinks specialist Jason Kosmas, includes two draft choices, along with several mixed ones, along with beer.

Owner Jay Jerrier had been looking for an Austin location for over two years when the St. Philip space became available last year, with the perfect slots for his pizzeria and new sweets partner Cow Tipping Creamery.

To celebrate its opening tonight, the pizzeria put together a video which offers glimpses at that barbecue and giant pizzas.

Jerrier has a soft spot for dogs (Cane Rosso translates to "red dog" in Italian), so much so that he started a nonprofit, Cane Rosso Rescue. The Austin location will host canine-related events in the future, and of course the patio welcomes all dogs.

Cane’s initial hours are from 5 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Sunday hours and lunch will be added later.
