A man masquerading as a Franklin Barbecue pitmaster is scamming free rides in exchange for gratis barbecue, which turns out to be false all along, which is one of the greatest disappointments in life
As seen on Franklin Barbecue’s Facebook page, the man, using the name Chris or Shawn, would tout his fake barbecue pedigree and ask people for free car rides from places like White Horse Tavern, Cafe Mueller, and King Bee (as reported on KEYE), for the promise of free barbecue. Then he would tell the driver to go to the barbecue joint the next to pick up the smoked meats, only for them to discover it wasn’t true. The imposter even went so far as to don an apron and walk around the outside of the East 11th Street barbecue joint. KXAN has surveillance photos of the man.
Eater has reached out to Franklin Barbecue for further comment; watch this space for updates. Franklin is closing for summer vacation next week from Monday, July 18 into Thursday, July 28.
