Kitty Cohen’s will be the latest bar heading to East Austin, from the team behind Blackheart and Proof & Cooper. It takes over the former Bar 2211 space at Webberville Road, and is set to open this month.
Update, June 20: Kitty Cohen's will open on Wednesday, June 22, with a grand opening party set a month later on July 22. Hours will be from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
1886 Management partners and Kitty's co-owners Jeremy Murray and Erick Sanger think of the space as exuding a "1970s Palm Beach bungalow vibe," which means painted palm trees, a grand piano, low-alcohol drinks (including punches), and a shallow water pool. It’s supposed to feel "classy, iconic, and a little bit trashy" all at once.
The name keeps up with the strong grandmother-titled trend (hello, Olamaie and Irene’s). The space will have also have a full bar and patio.
The outdoor kitchen will host events like pop-up dinners and supper clubs. Baton Creole’s Lynzy Moran, fresh off her venture with Bridget Dunlap at Ophelia, will cook up weekend brunch beginning potentially in July.
Kitty’s neighbors include Joe’s Bakery, Gourmands, Dog & Duck Pub, Lost Well, and Fleet Coffee.
