Former president Bill Clinton got a taste of Fresa’s Chicken al Carbon when chef Rene Ortiz made tacos during a private fundraiser for presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton in Austin. Alas, she wasn't there.
Ortiz created a special vegan taco just for Clinton. It was filled with king oyster mushroom, black bean huitlacoche, fleur de calabaza, and white hominy. Everyone else got brisket-filled El Rey tacos.
Ortiz called it "an amazing experience." The event, held earlier this week on Tuesday, June 28, was held at a private home. His brother, Cruz Ortiz and his company, Snake Hawk Press, created artwork specifically for the occasion, featuring the Clintons. This was the second time he cooked for the former president.
Fresa's is well familiar with political events. The drive-thru restaurant concocted a presidential taco for Barack Obama during a fundraiser held by director Robert Rodiguez in 2014. The resulting dish, the El Presidente, was added to the menu for a bit.
