Rudy's Country Store & Bar-B-Q’s barbecue pit caught on fire Sunday evening out on Research Boulevard. KXAN reports that the fire occurred behind the restaurant, within the pit and wood storage space. The exact cause of the fire is not known yet.
Some smoke entered the restaurant, which meant it had to close down for a short period of time. The fire didn’t affect the Shell gas station in front of the building. Rudy’s quickly reopened for customers this morning at around 11 a.m.
Rudy’s began as a gas station and grocery store in 1929 in San Antonio. Barbecue was added to the lineup in 1989. In the Austin area, there are four Rudy's all together, with scattered locations throughout Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Oklahoma. It was recently bought out by New York company REIT, but everything will remain the same.
