TX GERMAN BIER FESTIVAL
When: Saturday, June 4, 5 to 11 p.m.
What: New to the beer festival, which is featuring 15 beers from the state like Austin Beerworks, Real Ale, and Live Oak Brewing, is the grilled käse (German for cheese) competition. Tickets come with grilled cheese samples, beer tastings, and a glass boot.

ICE CREAM SOCIALS
When: Every Sunday this summer starting on June 5, 12 to 5 p.m.
What: The South Congress Hotel is getting ready for the hot, hot summer by executive pastry chef Amanda Rockman will be whipping up ice cream and other delicacies from the Stephen F. Frostin’ truck. She’ll also partner with guest chefs on select days, including Dai Due’s Abby Love on June 5, Fluff Bake Bar’s Rebecca Masson on July 24, and The Publican’s Dana Cree on August 14. Plus, there will be music with rose, bubbles, and beer drink specials.

JACQUES PEPIN
When: Sunday, June 5, 3 p.m. at the Long Center; 7:30 p.m. for dinner at Launderette
What: The lauded French chef is gracing Austin with his presence twice. First, he will speak at the Long Center about his television cooking shows and history. That is followed by a special tribute dinner cooked up by Launderette's Rene Ortiz and Laura Sawicki with soft scramble eggs, Floating Island desserts, and more.

What: Austin’s favorite food trailer park is back again this summer. The line-up includes Peached Tortilla, Dock & Roll, Mission Dogs, Rosarito, Vegan Nom, and others. Chill out on the dog-friendly lawn with music and great spot-on downtown views

TEXAS FRIED CHICKEN THROWDOWN
When: Sunday, June 12, 2 to 4:30 p.m.
What: Jack Gilmore and Bud Royer are hosting the second annual fried chicken competition out in Round Top, Texas. This year’s contenders include Gilmore, Royer, Hoover Alexander, Fork & Vine’s Camden Stuerzenberger. From Houston, there is Josh Martinez from the Modular Food Truck, Punk’s Simple Southern Food’s Brandi Key, and Max’s Wine Dive’s Masaru Fukuda. John Russ from Luke represents San Antonio. Joining the group is Round Top's Danny Ribling and Mike Kunkel from The Prairie. Beer, lemonade, pie, and ice cream will also be served. All proceeds go towards Meals on Wheels.

BACON AND BEER FESTIVAL
When: Sunday, June 12, 2:30 to 5 p.m.
What: After being postponed, the world's one true pairing is back again, this time in way out in Circuit of the Americas. Trek out to eat 18 bacon-centric dishes from places like Swift's Attic, Frank, and Fukumoto, plus beers from 13 breweries. The festival benefits Central Texas Food Bank.

RENEE ERICKSON AT JOSEPHINE HOUSE
When: Sunday, June 12, 6 to 10 p.m.
What: Josephine House’s next guest pop-up dinner is with James Beard Award winner Renee Erickson. The Seattle chef runs The Walrus and the Carpenter, The Whale Wins, and other seafood-inspired restaurants. The menu will include fried salmon skin, smoked corn broth with Manila clams, and grilled Hama Hama oysters.

BAR INSTITUTE

What: The Bart Institute is bringing a version of Portland Cocktail Week to Austin with classes and dinners centered around the idea of "social good." Look out for MashUps, where out-of-town teams take over Austin bars, from Remedy (Dallas), Anvil (Houston), Cane and Table (New Orleans), and Milk Room (Chicago).
