Delicious, the grocery store and restaurant, is now open in Lamar Union. Chefs Tyler Johnson and Kyle McKinney heads the kitchen, which means inventive pastries and robust dishes. It debuted in late May.
Update, June 2: It turns out Kyle McKinney is no longer involved with Delicious.
On deck for the restaurant portion are morning-only to-go breakfast tacos (including migas), house-made pastrami, green chorizo corn dogs, and more. For sandwiches, look out for the giant Korean fried chicken one, vegetarian-friendly portobello mushrooms masquerading as bacon, and the grilled fish, which will change depending on what’s in season.
McKinney’s pastries include cookies, doughnuts, and pies. Brunch leans towards savory with porridge, biscuits and gravy, and pozole, but yes, there are chicken and waffles, too. Retail goods from the market range from produce to snacks.
The beer bar is pouring local favorites like Hops & Grain, Adelbert's, Thirsty Planet, Independence Brewing Co., and Austin Eastciders, plus others like Karbach and Abita. Wine will also be available by the glass. Guests can also take their pick from the store’s bottles and cans.
Owner Raj Singh, who also oversees Live Oak Market, told Eater previously that his goal is to "create a 'wow' in almost every aspect" of Delicious. This can be seen with the ample seating (communal tables, banquettes, and bar), lots of plants, and an Austin mural.
Delicious’ hours are from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, until midnight on Thursday through Saturday, and until 10 p.m. on Sunday. Breakfast tacos are offered from 9 to 11 a.m. Brunch is served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the weekends.
