Schmidt Family Barbecue, from the family behind Lockhart legends Smitty’s and Kreuz Market, will shut down its Lakeway location before October, as reported by Statesman. The original spot on Bee Cave will stay open.

Owners Susie Schmidt-Franks and Chad Franks opened the Bee Caves restaurant in October 2013. The Lakeway expansion followed last summer, in the former Buster's BBQ site. After the fall shutter, employees from Lakeway will join the Bee Cave staff.

The Austin restaurant served as a reconciliation within the family after a major "barbefeud" between the famous Lockhart barbecue restaurants in the 1990s, which lead to Kreuz's relocation and Smitty's taking over Kreuz's spot. But, as it does, barbecue brought them back together. Both coals from Smitty's and Kreuz christened the Bee Cave pit.
