Musashino, the beloved sushi restaurant, is working hard to open in its new space in West Campus by early June, according to the Facebook page. The beloved sushi restaurant held its last day of service in its original spot on Greystone Drive last weekend.
The West Campus space will be larger than the original restaurant and plans to feature bar seating, a sushi counter, and open-block walls. Lunch will be added a month after the grand opening.
Musashino is taking over the space once occupied by Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, Fino, after longtime owners, Lisa and Emmet Fox, shut the place down last spring. The couple currently run the Italian spots Asti and cafe Cantine.
The 22-year-old restaurant, which air freights its seafood in from all over the world, has turned out some Austin’s best-known chefs including Tyson Cole of Uchi and Uchiko fame, Tatsu Aikawa and Takuya Matsumoto of Ramen Tatsu-ya, Kome’s Také Asazu, and Kazu Fukumoto’s restaurant of the same name on East 6th Street.
When Musashino moves out, their ground floor location will be taken over by Ronald Cheng’s Chinatown, which will likely focus on Asian street food. Chinatown has two other locations in Austin.
