Bufalina, the mega-popular Neapolitan pizzeria, is going to experiment with that essential New York food staple, the bagel, for a brunch pop-up this month. Executive chef Alex Manley and the staff will make wood-fired bagels served with all of the fixings a person could want: cream cheese, capers, tomatoes, onions, lox, and everything else.
Also on deck will be smoked fish and white fish salad from Jeffrey’s and Josephine House chef Rebecca Meeker. To quench thirsts, her colleague Daisy Ryan, assistant beverage director, will make brunch cocktails, and Figure 8 will pour coffee.
The magic happens on Sunday, May 22 at the East Cesar Chavez shop, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until everything is sold out, which is more than likely going to happen.
In other news: lunch will begin at Bufalina starting this summer, which will include weekends as well. Owner Steven Dilley also tells Eater that they’re toying with the idea of adding brunch to the lineup, which could potentially include bagels.
Bufalina expanded with a second location, Bufalina Due, in January out on Burnet Road. Dilley opened the original pizzeria on East Cesar Chavez in 2013.
