One of Austin’s favorite taco chains, Tacodeli, is temporarily closing down the original location on Spyglass Drive to gear up for renovations, as pointed out by a tipster. The shutter starts on Tuesday, May 3 Update, May 2: Turns out the shutter starts today. In the meantime, the Austin-based mini chain will set up a trailer at the address to serve the taco hungry, but with a limited menu.

The restaurant is taking over the next-door space. Changes will include tripling the amount of indoor seating, which will look out onto the Greenbelt. The kitchen is also being expanded, and a second bathroom is being added. Construction is expected to be completed before the end of summer. Update, April 28: A Tacodeli rep reached out to clarify that the restaurant will reopen in mid-summer.

Co-owner Roberto Espinosa told Eater that the Barton Hill location "represents our beginnings and has special meaning to us." While the modifications are big, the "unique character and charm" will still remain, he said.

There are four other locations across Austin, with an additional one in Dallas. Bribery Bakery recently teamed up to provide exclusive chocolate chip cookies. Espinosa and co-owner Eric Wilkerson opened in 1999.
