New York City cocktail bar Employees Only plans on teaming up with The Townsend’s Justin Elliott and other locals for its Austin expansion. The new spot will be found somewhere in downtown, with the address revealed in the fall, with a pegged late 2016 opening.
Other Austinites involved with the project are Steven Weisburd, owner of Penumbral Strategic Ventures (which owns The Townsend); Jeff Boley, who serves as bartender at The Townsend and Midnight Cowboy; and Stuart Thomajan, partner at the Chameleon Group, which oversees Swift’s Attic and Wu Chow.
The Austin version of Employees will be run Elliott and Weisburd as part of Penumbral. EO co-owner Jason Kosmas, who lives in the city and also runs 86 Company, heralded the bar’s expansion to the city. He said in a release:
[...] the Austin location will very much [have] its own unique vibe to reflect the city. We hope that those who have experienced EO in Manhattan will enjoy the Austin location as much as the original, and also are looking forward to introducing the brand, bar, and experience to an entirely new audience.
Employees Only is also making its way to Singapore in the summer and Miami Beach in the fall.
