Delish, the bakery from the owners of Swift’s Attic and Wu Chow, closed up shop yesterday, Sunday, April 10 with a note left on the door. Owner Lisa Matulis-Thomajan opened the bakery eight years ago on West 3rd Street and it joined The Chameleon Group, run by her husband Stuart and C.K. Chin, along with the two restaurants, plus a forthcoming third one. She will move into real estate instead. Read the full letter below.
The bakery was known for cupcakes, s'mores brownies, macarons, cookie sandwiches, and customizable cakes. Callie Speer, then-pastry chef for Swift's Attic, joined the bakery earlier last year to revamp the sweets menu. When Speer left for Geraldine’s last fall, Delish provided sweets for Wu Chow. Derrick Flynn joined Swift's Attic this year as the new pastry chef.
Delish’s Shutter Letter
It is with a touch of sadness but a grand smile and a look to the future that Delish says goodbye to our loyal customers, neighbors and friends. After 8 amazing years of calling downtown Austin home, I have decided to hang up my apron and have stepped on a new career path. A year of landmarks that included sending my one child/daughter off to college and a milestone birthday saw me reflecting on where I could see myself in 5 years. Around that same time, a huge opportunity quite literally fell in my lap and it was then that I knew it was time. It was kismet it seemed!I am blessed to have been a part of so many monumental moments that included proposals, weddings, housewarmings, gender reveals, graduations and smashcakes. I am also extremely thankful to have been able to serve so many great charities and social events in our city and meet so many great people. I will never forget and will forever be grateful for the opportunity that I was given to be even the smallest thread in the fabric of our customer’s lives. Our customers were always my favorite part of what I did.
So thank you, thank you, thank you to all my wonderful customers (many of which became dear friends outside of the bakery too), thank you to my 2nd Street District neighbors and a very special thank you to all of my past and current co-workers who I have had the opportunity to work alongside – you have all together been part of one of the sweetest times of my life that I will cherish always.
– Lisa
