Horror film fans will get to geek out and fill up on barbecue when the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Gas Station opens in Bastrop, Texas, as reported by the Guardian. Set to serve as a living tribute to the original 1974 classic, owner Roy Rose is turning the film location into what he called "a horror barbecue resort" to KXAN last year.
Formerly known as Last Chance, the gas station was used as the set for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre’s barbecue restaurant run by cannibal cook Drayton Sawyer. Unassuming customers were turned into smoked meats and chili.
Rose, a longtime fan of the movie, purchased the land in 2015, and is in the middle of renovating the property. He and his aptly-chosen partner Ari Lehman (who portrayed a young Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th) will add cabins for guests to spend the night (and accompanying shower house), stage for live music, horror museum, smoker house, and of course, a cafe serving (presumably animal) chili.
The horror destination will open sometime this summer on 1073 Texas State Highway 304. Previous iterations of the gas station include Bilbo’s Texas Landmark and Ryan's Hills Prairie Grocery.
