North Campus is about to get a whole lot hoppier with the grand opening of Growler USA on Saturday, February 27. The beer-loving bar will feature 100 microbrews on tap, including craft beers from Austin and from elsewhere in the state. It will be the Colorado-based chain's third location. This may come as some small relief to beer lovers faced with the sudden closure of World of Beer earlier this month.
In addition to microbrews, Growler USA will feature kombucha, hard ciders, draft wines, root beers, and cold-pressed coffee. The food offerings include wraps, blackened mahi-mahi tacos, bratwurst sliders, and oven-roasted chicken wings.
Proprietor MJ Hurt, an Austin native, stated that she wants to showcase the best in American brewing culture, from the types of taps they use to proper beer storage. All the staff are certified Cicerone Beer Servers (similar to being a certified sommelier), which Hurt promises will ensure a top-tier beer experience.
Growler USA hosts a grand opening party from 3 to 5 p.m. on opening day. Guests will receive a free plastic 64-ounce growler with purchase of any Austin craft brew, and Deb O'Keefe of 101X's morning show will be on hand to give away free SXSW wristbands to a few lucky winners.
