The Lamar Union will solidify its reputation as a culinary hot spot when its newest addition Mexican restaurant and margarita cantina El Burro opens for dinner service tonight, Thursday, December 8. The highly anticipated restaurant is the brainchild of restaurateur Vincent Manguino and the rest of team behind VOX Table.
Eater photographer Courtney Pierce previewed the bright cheery space, which includes tables, booths, bar seating, and a patio that overlooks South Lamar Boulevard.
The menu highlights modern Mexican fare including tacos and enchiladas with indulgent proteins like lobster tail and bacon-wrapped shrimp, plus plates like braised goat. Look for a build-your-own quesadilla option and half-pound or full-pound fajita plates too. If you’re in the mood to share, opt for queso fundido, the nopale salad with charred cactus, elotes (Mexican sweet corn), or crispy churritos in a bag. No time to dine-in? Customers will also be able to place orders online.
El Burro’s beverage program includes cerveza by the bottle or bucket and a wide range of house and classic cocktails curated by VOX Table beverage director JR Mocanu. You’ll find margaritas, Mexican martinis, micheladas, palomas and house-made sangria, plus specialty cocktails such as the Frida Kahlo, a blend of Ocho Plata Tequila, Plantation Overproof, strawberry hibiscus, and lime. Agua frescas and Jarritos will be available too.
El Burro’s hours are Sunday through Wednesday, 4 to 11 p.m., and 4 p.m. until midnight Thursday through Saturday. Find El Burro by Juice Society, Delicious, and Lick Ice Cream within Lamar Union’s second building.
