Doc’s Motorworks Bar & Grill is shuttering its South Congress location this month, due to the block’s impending demolition for a new development. The sports bar had been open for 11 years. The last day of service will be on Friday, December 23, the day before Christmas Eve with one final happy hour.
According to a press release, Doc’s owners decided to just sell the location rather than deal with construction, which includes that new development as well as Liz Lambert’s latest Bunkhouse project, Hotel Magdelena, opening right next door on Music Lane. The owners are looking to open a new Doc’s somewhere nearby, but no details have been announced.
Other businesses on the block next to Academy Drive, like clothing boutique Parts & Labour and gym Ignite Fitnez, are making relocation plans and setting closing dates , to make room for the mixed-use project, which will include some sort of dining establishment. Across the way, Snack Bar closed in October while Bunkhouse renovates the Austin Motel, which will include a replacement restaurant.
Doc’s has three other locations: Rosedale, Sunset Valley, and Houston. Doc’s opened on South Congress in 2005.
