Fans of way-popular television show Gilmore Girls, get ready for lots of free coffee courtesy of Netflix. The streaming service is transforming cafes across the country into Stars Hollow's very own cell phone-discouraging eatery Luke's Diner for one day on Wednesday, October 5.
In Austin, this means Gilmore fanatics can take over tables all to themselves at three spots: Vintage Heart Coffee on East 7th Street, Summermoon Coffee Bar on South First, and Caffe Medici on Congress (the cafe and the walk-up counter).
The pop-up Luke's Diner hours will be from 7 a.m. to noon. On the day, baristas will be wearing Luke's Diner aprons and T-shirts, and it's safe to expect lots of flannel and Luke’s ubiquitous backwards blue baseball hats. The site promises something special on the coffee cups, underneath the custom coffee sleeves. Be prepared for long, long lines.
October 5 is also the 16th anniversary of Gilmore Girls’ pilot episode, to be followed by the Netflix revival on November 25, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
