EastSide Tavern, the table-service barbecue and cocktail spot on East Cesar Chavez, will eventually fling its doors open on Thursday, November 3. Formerly known as Rustic East, it was forced to change its name because of a cease and desist issued from Dallas restaurant, bar, and live music venue The Rustic.
Update, November 2: Turns out the restaurant is pushing back its opening date, though nothing specific has been announced yet.
Pitmaster Cade Mercer (formerly of Lamberts Downtown Barbecue) will smoke up brisket, pulled pork, pork ribs, smoked turkey, barbecue smoked half chickens, and sausages, sold by the pound. Desserts are smoked-meats appropriate, think banana pudding, cobbler, and ice cream. Other dishes will include brisket and cheddar cheese-stuffed tater tots, barbecue sandwiches, salads, and Frito pie. Scope out the working menu.
Cocktails will be quick, with draft and barrel-aged drinks, as well as classic cocktails served in flights. Beer and wine will be served as well. The space will include a rooftop deck and patio out in the front.
