A suspicious container spotted on East 10th Street today turned out to be a jar of pickled okra, as reported by the Statesman and KXAN.

Today’s bomb scare happened right before 11 a.m., when the package, which was found in the middle of the road, was reported. Immediately, the Austin police department sent out its bomb squad to investigate. It shut down the block between Red River Street and Highway 35's frontage road. The team discovered that the brown paper bag contained not a bomb, but rather a single jar full of pickled okra. The street was cleared by 1 p.m. and is now reopened.

There was no word on the brand of pickled okra. Perhaps the informant just really hated anything pickled, since people seem to have really strong feelings against the preserved method.
