Tom Micklethwait Recreates ZZ Top’s 'Tres Hombres' Tex Mex Meal

A Tex Mex musical masterpiece.

Nadia Chaudhury is the editor of Eater Austin covering food and pop culture, as well as a photographer, writer, and frequent panel moderator and podcast guest.

Barbecue pitmaster Tom Micklethwait stretched out his cooking skills by recreating the meal depicted on the inside cover for ZZ Top’s 1973 legendary album Tres Hombres with Lucky Peach. Micklethwait told Eater he made tacos, chalupa, tostada, beef enchiladas, with bean and cheese nachos on the side. He chose not to make the tamale, though. The beer is from the now-defunct Houston brewery Southern Select. Watch him recreate the Tex Mex meal and promptly devour his work.
