Adding onto the fried chicken sandwich craze this week is Flyrite Chicken, the fast casual drive-thru on East 7th. While the late January opening is being pushed back to February, construction for the space has been coming along. Check out the plywood photos below.
Owner Kevin Warden previously told Eater he wants to "disrupt what people expect from a normal drive-thru" by offering what he described as "clean, natural, mindfully-sourced food." This means fried and grilled chicken sandwiches (with a spicy option), gluten-free and vegan dishes, wraps, chicken strips, and more. On the sweeter side, there are milkshakes, croissant bites, and cookies. Beer and sparkling wine will also be served. Quirino Silva and Dallas Miller, alums from barbecue chain County Line, will help him out as director of culinary operations, and the East 7th’s operations manager, respectively.

Previously called Fly Chicken Works, Warden took over the Taqueria Arandas spot on East 7th in late 2014. After the east side location opens, work will begin on the second one on 6539 Burnet Road, one of Austin’s newer hot neighborhoods with nearby Barley Swine, Bufalina Due, and Aristocrat Lounge.
