Austin’s beer scene is adding another brewery to the tally with Kamala Gardens Brewery, run by Whip In’s Dipak Topiwala and Twisted X Brewing co-founder Jim Sampson. The brewery and brewpub will focus on what they call "approachable, daily" fresh and barrel-aged beers, according to the press release. The two are currently raising money for the production facility as well as looking for a location, potentially in southwest Austin.
Once the logistics are settled, they see Kamala Gardens as a "comfortable third place" where people can hang out, work, bring their dogs, listen to music, and drink. They're looking to add a food truck, too.
Topiwala took over Whip In from his parents in 2004, and added in-house brewing. The brewery had to change its name from Namaste to Kamala (no relation) because of a name dispute with Dogfish Head. Sampson started Tex Mex brewery Twisted X Brewing in 2009 with Shane Bordeau.
