Weekend Plans: Labor Day Edition

Mourn the unofficial end of summer this Labor Day weekend with plenty of beer-filled parties, fried chicken sandwiches, and sweet and savory pastries.

AUSTIN — Both Shake Shack locations are bringing back the corn dog and peach pie concrete for the long weekend starting today, September 4. [EaterWire]

SOUTH FIRST — Try some of Odd Duck’s pastry chef Susana Querejazu’s sweet creations during her baking pop-up at Metier on Saturday, September 5. It opens at 10 a.m. until sold out. The cook shop is also holding a weekend sale with free beer. [EaterWire]

SOUTHEAST AUSTINIndependence Brewing Co.’s Labor Day party on Saturday, September 5, will be full of beer, music, and food from Mrs. P’s Electric Cock and BOCA. Between 12 to 6 p.m., the $10 wristband comes with three beers; there will be other special beers available, too, including Redbug with cucumber and melon. [EaterWire]

EAST SIDE — For more beer, head to Art of the Brew, where art and ales collide on Saturday, September 5. Beers will be served with paired bites (Frank, Sa-Ten, Wunder Pig BBQ) alongside artwork inspired by each brewery, from 3 to 10 p.m. at Canopy. There’s a $20 suggested donation, too. [EaterWire]

EAST 6TH — Preview brand-new fried chicken drive-thru chain Flyrite on Monday, September 7 during a pop-up at Hops & Grain at 12 p.m. Only the first 300 people will get the chance to try the fried chicken sandwich. SOUTH AUSTINABGB celebrates both Labor Day and its second anniversary with a cookout on Monday, September 7. There’ll be plenty of meat, veggie burgers, beer, and cake from 12 to 9 p.m. The brewery is also hosting two brewery tours at 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. [EaterWire]
