Construction on impending 24-hour Southside Cafe will begin in October, as reported by Community Impact. The new project on Manchaca Road is owned by South Austin Ventures, which also oversees nearby Strange Brew Coffee. The new projected opening date is March 2016, just in time for SXSW.
Strange Brew took over the longtime Bakehouse, which closed last June. Shane Widner, the president of South Austin Ventures, told the publication that Southside Cafe will aim to become a neighborhood place, much like its predecessor. Changes will include a patio, porch, and wood-fired oven. The Mediterranean menu will include pizza and vegetarian items. Breakfast will be served all day and night and there will be a full bar.
In a newsletter sent in June, Strange Brew also announced that it is also taking over an unknown third business. Widner confirmed the new project to Eater, but couldn't disclose the name yet.
