Heads up, sushi fiends: The new restaurant from former Musashino chef Kazu Fukumoto makes it debut next Wednesday, September 2. UPDATE: Fukumoto has delayed its opening due to equipment issues; stay tuned for a new opening date as soon as it's available. Update, September 3, 10 a.m.: Fukumoto swings its doors open to the public officially today at 4:30 p.m. Hours are from 4:30 to 10 p.m. from Mondays through Thursdays, and until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Located at the bottom of the Corazon Apartments on East Sixth along with neighbors Gelateria Gemelli and The Bee Grocery, Fukumoto will serve yakitori, tempura, sushi, and sake straight out of mini Japanese barrels.
The dining room showcases an open kitchen where diners can watch (and smell) their yakitori being grilled. If the pop-up held at Qui earlier this year was any indication, expect all manner of chicken parts to be skewered and grilled, including gizzards, livers, hearts, and crispy skin. There will also be a patio out back, and oh yeah — don't miss the fancy bidets in the bathroom.
