Weekend Plans: Hot Sauce, Lobster Rolls, and More

Temperatures are rising again this weekend, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying Fleet’s coffee, Eat.Drink.Empower’s female-focused dinner, The Chronicle’s epic hot sauce gathering, and more this weekend.

EAST 7TH — Austin’s upcoming coffee shop Fleet is pairing up with The Hightower for a pop-up brunch on Saturday, August 22. Fleet will be selling espresso and pour-overs to go along with the New American brunch from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. [EaterWire]

DOWNTOWN — Tickets are still available for this year’s Eat.Drink.Empower benefitting SafePlace on Saturday, August 22. The 6 p.m. dinner highlights Austin’s female chefs and bartenders. SOLA — Pluckers is hosting a lip sync battle at the South Lamar location on Saturday, August 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. Ten selected participants will compete to win tickets to the wing chain’s upcoming ACL concert with Passion Pit and Bleachers on Saturday, September 5. [EaterWire]

EAST SIDE — Hot sauce lovers need to hit up The Chronicle’s festival on Sunday, August 23. Along with competing sauces made by home cooks, restaurants, and retailers, El Naranjo and Greenhouse Craft Food will hold hot sauce demos. NORTH BURNET — This year’s Mobile Truck Throwdown will pit Dock and Roll Diner and Garbo’s Lobster Truck in what it dubs as "Clawmageddon" to see which trailer makes the best lobster roll on Sunday, August, 23. Though sold out, attendees will the burden of trying each truck's roll to declare a winner. It will be held at Austin Beerworks from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Last year, Chi’Lantro won against The Peached Tortilla. [EaterWire]
