Texas Tiki Week returns to Austin for a fourth time on Monday, August 3, bringing rum cocktails, paper umbrellas, and lots of kitsch. Nothing will be like this hamster’s party, but here are the best events open to the public and members of the United States Bartenders’ Guild to check out next week.
Sunday, August 2
Texas Tiki Week Preview Night at Drink.Well: Before the week officially begins, the North Loop bar is offering a warm-up with drinks mixed by Derek Brumfield from New Orlean’s Tiki Tolteca. Expect punches, volcano bowls, and $8 cocktails.
Monday, August 3
Official Texas Tiki Week Kickoff Party at Isla: From 7-11 p.m., there will be tiki decor, drinks, and snacks at the opening night party. Non-USBG members are encouraged to donate $10.
Tuesday, August 4
Schooners and Crooners, A Tiki-oke Social at King Bee: Drinking helps loosen those vocal cords, doesn’t it? Sing your heart out from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. There’s a $10 suggested donation for non-USBG members.
Wednesday, August 5 through Thursday, August 6
Lost Lake Happy Hour Pop-Up at Hotel San Jose: The Chicago tiki bar is taking over the hotel on South Congress for two days, serving drinks and selling armadillo tiki mugs from 3-6 p.m.
Thursday, August 6
Beach Blanket Bingo at Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar’s Cocktails and Cinema: Attendees of the screening of the 1960s beach party film get a free armadillo tiki mug for those tiki-approved cocktails. The screening begins at 7 p.m.
Friday, August 7
Hollywood Havana and the Secret Mix at the Roosevelt Room: Burlesque and cocktails go hand in hand. Doors open at 9 p.m. and tickets are $25 for non-members at the door.
