The end has finally come: Burnet Road's The Omelettry will shutter its home of 37 years on May 4th. According to a press release from The Omelettry, the fifties-era building, originally a root beer stand, will be torn down to make for, yes, luxury apartments. The restaurant plans a quick comeback, however: their new location at 4631 Airport Boulevard is slated to reopen by the end of the month.
The Omelettry first announced their intentions to move in February of 2014, and they settled on a space on ever-growing Airport Boulevard. The new location will be larger and co-owner Jesse Carpenter says the move to a newer space will be a welcome change. The Omelettry has had an outsized impact on Austin's dining culture, with former partners going on to start both Kerbey Lane and Magnolia Cafe.
