Toaster, the new Southern food truck on the grounds of East Austin bar Stay Gold, officially opens tomorrow, Thursday, April 2. To celebrate, the bar and trailer will host a grand opening party from 3-7 p.m., with mimosas, beers, and music, and free baked mac ‘n cheese.
Helmed by chef Hannah Love, Toaster’s offerings are described as "elevated home cooking with a Southern twist." Love previously worked at Clark’s, Perla’s, and Jeffrey’s. She told Eater that diners can expect grilled cheese sandwiches, creamed corn, and pierogis. More pizza specials are also in the works. Weekend brunch will include homemade granola and yogurt, scotch eggs, spiced pulled pork benedict (for "heartier appetites," she said), and a peanut butter and jelly French toasted with a Bananas Foster topping.
Toaster will be open on Mondays-Fridays from 5 p.m.-1 a.m., and weekends from 11-1 a.m. Stay Gold will also open early on the weekends to serve mimosas and other brunch-appropriate cocktails. The East Cesar Chavez bar, run by Nathan Hill and Will Tanner, formerly of White Horse and Hole in the Wall, debuted in January.
