Rooftop Lounge Lanai Will Shutter After This Weekend

Potential plans for an "adult-oriented" business are in the works for the building housing the club.

House music haven and rooftop bar Lanai will shutter this weekend with a huge send-off party. Their Facebook posting announcing the shutter reads:

AFTER 7 MAGICAL YEARS we are sad to announce that Lanai will be closing it's doors. It has been an honor and a privilege to host such an amazing group of hardworking local DJs that have poured their hearts and souls into the music they have provided for your listening and dancing pleasure. While what we have always done may not have been the popular choice, it was a choice we would have made a million times over and couldn't have asked for a better group to navigate us through this journey.

An "adult-oriented" business has been proposed for some part of the property at 422 Congress Avenue which housed Lanai, and The Austin Business Journal digs into the shutter's implications for that project. City officials are already moving to block any potential adult (read: strip club) use of the entire property, and the Lanai space is a possible if unlikely candidate even if the project goes through.
