World of Beer is opening their first Austin location on South Lamar on Monday, March 16, just in time to help Austinites avoid the throngs of SXSW attendees in downtown. To celebrate, the bar will tap a firkin of a custom-made beer with mango from Independence Brewing Co. There will also be a raffle fundraiser for the Austin Firefighters Outreach Fund that day.
World of Beer’s beverage list will include over 500 different types of beers, both bottles and cans, and 50 rotating taps, with a focus on local breweries. There will be regular firkin tappings, along with the infusion tower, where fruits, herbs, or coffee will be added to a base beer to create customized flavors. For non-beer lovers, there will be cocktails and ciders. The comfort tavern menu includes the beer chain’s take on brunch, BEERunch, with Belgian beer waffles, breakfast tacos, and more. Patrons can sit inside or out on the patio along South Lamar.
Permits for World of Beer went up last September, and they were hiring staff last month. The bar will be open Sundays through Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., and Thursdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
