Plywood Updates: Status Report on Austin’s Most Anticipated Spring Openings

Spring will bring lots of new restaurants to the city.

Here is a round-up of plywood updates for Austin’s most anticipated restaurant opening this spring, from Mongers Market and Kitchen's seafood fare, Via 313's first brick and mortar, to West 4th's newest tiki bar, Isla.

Mongers Market and Kitchen
The seafood store and restaurant helmed by Gulf seafood supplier Roberto San Miguel and former Kenichi chef Shane Stark is set to open sometime during the first week of March, according to a video posted on their Facebook page. Recently, they underwent health and building inspections. The restaurant, which is also hiring for its staff, will feature a retail fish counter, oyster bar, bar, dining room, and outdoor patio.

Counter 3.Five.VII
Counter 3.Five.VII will open during the first week of March, according to their Facebook page. The high concept restaurant will serve three, five, and seven course pre fixe menus. Earlier this year, they hired a slew of staffers.

Vox Table
The exact date of Vox Table’s opening in Lamar Union hasn’t been announced yet, but construction on the space continues. The restaurant will feature wooden floors and an open kitchen. Earlier this year, they were hiring for all positions. The kitchen will dish out New American small plates.

Prelog
Austrian chef Florian Prelog’s namesake European restaurant in the Austin 360 Tower will open soon, according to photos on their Facebook page. There will be an outdoor patio, an herb garden, murals of European places and paraphernalia with an Lao Tzu quote, and an open kitchen. The restaurant is currently looking for a hostess and part-time bartender.

Via 313
Purveyors of Detroit-style pizza Via 313 is finally opening up their first brick and mortar in Oak Hill. The new restaurant, set to open sometime in April, will serve their classic pies, along with salads, desserts, and boozy drinks. Signage for the restaurant went up in the Oak Hill Centre board.

Cantine
Italian Cantine will be the third restaurant from the restauranteurs behind the now-shuttered update: West Campus Fino which will close sometime mid to late April, and Asti, set to open in Lamar Union. Construction on the restaurant began already, but the exact date of the restaurant isn’t known yet.

Isla
After craft rum bar Pleasant Storage Room shut down in December, next-door neighbor Peche took over the space. The result is tiki bar Isla, which will open sometime during the first week of March update: March 1. Expect tropical motifs like photos of girls in grass skirts, pineapples, and tons of rum drinks.
