Aviary Decor, the home goods store and wine lounge, will close on South Lamar soon. Owner Marco Fiorilo was in the process of changing Aviary’s current use (furniture store with accessory use to serve wine) into a restaurant, but the process was taking too long. He plans on relocating the shop, but he doesn’t have a spot in mind yet. Aviary doesn’t have a last date yet.
There have also been neighborhood complaints over noise and outdoor seating. Another neighbor created a petition to show support for the furniture store. Aviary’s TABC permit is currently pending renewal, but Fiorilo said the shutter is inevitable. He told Eater:
With restaurants and bars interspersed to create foot traffic the revenue of small boutiques goes up and the chance of survival for them increases. I love how much change I have seen on South Lamar in 10 years and I also feel sad for all the retail businesses I watched come and go.
Fiorilo opened Aviary in 2006 as a furniture store and gallery space. He applied for the TABC permit in 2008, which he received in 2009, allowing him to serve wine and bar snacks like charcuterie and olives.
