Cat lovers, get ready. Blue Cat Cafe, Austin’s first cafe dedicated to all things feline, finally has an opening date: Friday, October 16 Update, October 12: It's been pushed back to Saturday, October 17. The grand opening, though, is only open to Kickstarter backers who selected that level. For the soft opening starting Monday, October 12, all backers will have access to the reservation system first. The kitty stars of the cafe from the Austin Humane Society arrived at the space today, so they have time to get adjusted to their new surroundings.
Along with cats, comfortable seating, and coffee, there will be an on-site vegan food truck, serving substitute meats from BBQ Revolution. The space will have plenty of cat-friendly features, including a kitty superhighway lining the walls, musical instruments decked out as cat beds, and a giant cat tree. All of the Blue Cat Cafe’s felines will be available for adoption.
Rebecca Gray launched her Kickstarter to raise funds for a cat cafe in February after being inspired by similar projects in California and Canada. She also hustled on the side by pedicabbing during SXSW and throwing a lot of cat parties. The campaign was fully funded in April. Gray found Blue Cat Cafe’s future home on the east side.
