Barbecue was the star of last night’s episode of The Simpsons, "Cue Detective." There’s a roadside barbecue shack (not a food trailer), stolen smoker (echoing John Mueller’s ordeal last week), Food Network-style barbecue smoke-off with a Bobby Flay stand-in named Scotty Boom, and a guest appearance from Alton Brown.
Executive producer Matt Selman acknowledged Mueller’s situation, calling him an "Austin BBQ maestro," and stating that these types of crimes tend to happen often with barbecue equipment. The episode was inspired by the theft of his neighbor's Big Green Egg in Georgia. Texas Monthly barbecue editor Daniel Vaughn collected the ten best lines from the episode, including Watch the episode and soak up the pouring cuts of meats.
