Cocktail lounge The Golden Goose, which took over iconic dive bar The Horseshoe Lounge’s space on South Lamar, will open officially on Thursday, November 12. The bar had been soft opened since July by new co-owners Jason Steward from Bar 2211 and Sean Fric of J. Black’s. Since the Horseshoe left, the lounge now serves liquor and cocktails, takes credit cards, and has a stage for live music. The cocktail list includes a takes on Manhattans and martinis, and frozen Moscow Mules. See the full list below. Cheap beer will be available: Tecate and Lone Stars for $2.50.

Inside, there’s a jukebox and shuffleboard in honor of the previous tenant. The space, which was designed by home decorators Lenore Callahan Interior Design, includes a copper tile ceiling and antique church pews. Hours are from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. every day.
Former tenant The Horseshoe Lounge closed down in early 2015 after 50 years of business. But much to the pleasure of old school drinkers, the dive bar is reopening on 153 E. Riverside sometime, but no opening date has been pegged down yet. The new iteration of Horseshoe will include a liquor license, but there won’t be any fancy cocktails.
