Torchy’s Tacos' impending flagship restaurant on South Congress will open sometime during the second week of January in 2016, as confirmed by a rep. The opening party will involve free tacos. The location will include sidewalk seating and big indoor dining room. Because the restaurant is located near an elementary school, plans for the full bar are on hold until the city grants the taco chain a liquor license waiver. To gather support for that, people are asked to help out by signing a letter of support.
Torchy's announced it was taking over the former Fran’s Hamburger space last summer. The former hamburger building was demolished earlier this year, and Torchy’s gave away free tacos to passersby. The massive location in Mueller, which opened last November, includes a full bar. The taco franchise plans on opening its first out-of-state spot in Colorado. There are currently over 30 locations all over Texas.
