Summit Rooftop Lounge owner Chad Barrett and Dan Wyman is turning the first floor of the building on West 5th Street into BaseCamp, a sports bar and restaurant. The executive chef will be Eric Kuypers, who worked at Uchi and Peached Tortilla. The menu will feature what it calls "American cuisine with a Texas focus," which means salad, meat, and a lot of barbecue, along with beer and cocktails. There will be plenty of television screens.

Wyman, who will serve as partner and general manager of BaseCamp, helped open and manage several Parkside Project restaurants, including Parkside and The Backspace. He also worked at Poleng Lounge in San Francisco and managed Uchi. Barrett opened EDM-heavy nightclub Summit Rooftop Lounge in 2013.

BaseCamp will be found at 120 West 5th Street. Once open, hours will be from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on the weekends, which means brunch will be available. It is projected to open this fall, though no exact date has been set.
