Players, the campus burger hangout that closed down last fall, could will be reborn in Zilker Park, as reported by The Statesman. Update, October 16: According to Community Impact, the Austin City Council approved of Players' Zilker Park contract. Co-owner Carlos Oliveria and his team would take over Zilker Cafe, right near Barton Springs Pool. This would be Players Concessions’ fourth operation, which currently includes small locations at three different Austin golf courses. The new menu will be limited, sticking to burgers and fries, and adding smoothies.

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department put out a public survey earlier this year in search for a new vendor for Zilker Park. There were two other proposals being considered for the space, including Rodriguez Concessions, which ran the cafe since 1975 until the end of September. The Austin Monitor said that the survey revealed grievances over lack of healthy options and the quality of the food from Rodriguez.

On its last day on MLK on November 24, 2014, Players stayed open all Sunday for customers. The restaurant was demolished in December to make room for a business school building.
