Hole in The Wall And White Horse Alums to Launch New East Austin Bar

Stay Gold will ply East Cesar Chavez with cocktails, beer, and a food truck.

Another new bar is headed to the rapidly transforming strip of East Cesar Chavez. Nathan Hill and Will Tanner will open Stay Gold at 1910 E. Cesar Chavez, formerly the location of Tejano bar El Leon. Hill tells Eater the bar will offer a simple cocktail menu but also hopes to serve patrons "who just want a can of PBR." The decor mixes custom-built booths and gold light fixtures with casual industrial details, and a small stage will host live music with a focused on soul and rock.

The bar's patio will host new food truck Toaster, which will serve "fancy home-style" food, including a Saturday and Sunday brunch. The chef is Hannah Love, who previously worked at Clark's, Perla's, and Jeffrey's. There's also an adjacent food truck court which should fill out with tenants in the coming months.

Hill is one of the partners in Lynchian honky tonk The White Horse, and Tanner is a veteran of campus dive Hole in The Wall. Stay Gold is a new iteration of the previously planned project for the space, a bar from The White Horse called The Good Luck. They plan on opening as early as next week.
