A crowd gathered to watch the demolition of the old Fran’s Hamburgers on South Congress yesterday afternoon, and the Statesman captured video of the moment. The space’s new tenant, Torchy’s Tacos, invited the public to view the wrecking and paid tribute to the original iconic burger restaurant with free tacos. Fran Junk, the proprietor and namesake of Fran’s, told the newspaper, “Every beginning’s gotta have an end.”

The South Congress Fran's closed in 2013, but the north location on Cameron Road is still open. The new flagship for Torchy's Tacos is projected to open sometime in July.
