An impressively pedigreed coffee shop called Figure 8 Coffee Purveyors softly opened this morning at 7 a.m. in the space formerly occupied by East Village Cafe. Per coffee blog Sprudge, the 800 square-foot shop is the brainchild of former Houndstooth and Cenote baristas Ryan Hall and Kathleen Carmichael. The duo has completely refinished the interior, outfitting it with reclaimed wood tables and a cupping table made from an old conveyor belt; a shiny, three-sided copper bar offers plenty of seating. Figure 8 is heavily showcasing beans from Tweed, the roastery from Houndstooth owner Sean Henry, and they'll also feature guest roasters on a rotating basis. Figure 8 is open until 7 p.m. tonight; according to Sprudge, it's "a cafe that's worth the trip across town."
