The newest addition to the Austin banh mi scene will officially open its doors next week. Dang Banh Mi opens this Monday, July 21, serving up a menu of banh mi sandwiches, pho, bun, and other Vietnamese specialities in a fast-casual style space at Burnet and 183. The restaurant is the latest project from Dave Paul, Sean Greenberg and Mark Greenberg of Plucker's Wing Bar, inspired by Paul's passion for Vietnam and banh mi.
Dang's owners previously told Eater that the banh mi are based on 100 year old family recipes from the Bánh Mì Phuong street stand in Hội An, Vietnam. While the project is not intended to expand as rapidly as Plucker's, notably the website has a slot for "locations." Dang Banh Mi joins local chain PhoNatic in combining what the owners call an "approachable" fast casual atmosphere with Vietnamese cuisine.
